![]() Does Wd Work On Sierra Upgrade To SierraIn the 4+ years since, I have not had a single failure on any of the several implementations. So now the process is even more complicated, requiring you to start with a system running El Capitan, then create the Fusion drive, then upgrade to Sierra, and finally restore all your stuff from a backup.I suspect you have resolved your issues by now, but I wanted to post so this should others find your thread.First off, I have been running DIY Fusion drives since Apple made the capability available. Worse yet, many are now reporting that it doesn't seem to work on macOS Sierra. Now I'm trying to set it up so that the SSD and hard drive operate as a single drive, with macOS automatically moving more frequently used apps and files to the faster SSD on an ongoing basis. The process to create a Fusion drive a bit of a pain in the ass, and not very user friendly. I removed the optical drive from my old iMac and replaced it with an SSD. I cloned the original HDD using SuperDuper to an external drive and then I verified it would boot properly. If you don't find a recovery partition then you need to reinstall macOS and allow it to create such.My most recent Fusion implementation was using macOS 10.12.3 on a late 2011 iMac. You CAN'T include the running boot partition, so you either have to boot from a cloned external drive or from the recovery partition. The steps that have been in well documented in numerous locations still work perfectly in Sierra. Samsung ssd for macThe performance boost is very significant over HDD and pretty much on par with a pure SSD implementation. I will leave the bare bones, bootable partition intact should the need arise for a backup bootable partition.Setting up a Fusion Drive is not particularly difficult and if you need more storage than the typical SSD (affordable that is), then Fusion is a great solution. I then did an additional download of macOS 10.12.3 and told it to install on the newly created Fusion Drive and to migrate the data from the clone I had previously created. After downloading the original OS (Lion in this case) followed by an upgrade to macOS 10.12.3 and verification that the recovery partition was properly created on the HDD, I then did the requisite diskutil corestorage commands to create the Fusion drive using the fully defined disk#s (i.e. I partitioned the SSD such that it had a total of 20% underprovisioned (factory 7% plus an additional 13%) and I partitioned the HDD into two partitions, one a 50GB drive into which I installed a base OS and the remainder for use in the Fusion drive.
